| Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) |
|
Immunoglobulins (antibodies) are an important part of the immune defence system against infections. Several classes of antibodies exist: IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE and IgD. IgG is the most important class and is divided into four sub-classes denoted IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, IgG4.

The ability to make antibodies can be compromised or abolished as a result of an inherited disease (primary immune deficiency) or as a result of an acquired disease and its treatment (secondary immune deficiency).
These primary and secondary immune deficiencies can be treated with intravenous infusions of IVIG.

Statens Serum Institut has developed and patented a method for producing a liquid IVIG in high yield and with purity (IVIG SSI, liquid). This product has been tested clinically and was registered in 1999.
During the period 1999 to 2005 more than 1000 kg IVIG SSI, liquid has been sold and only few side effects have been reported.
Currently, we intend to license the technology to interested companies.
